After last year’s successful debut, the Historic Grand Prix at Zandvoort will again provide the battleground for the FIA Historic F3 European Cup in 2019. Interest is huge, as the FIA has already welcomed 22 entries with more than four months still to go. So will the Zandvoort crowd be able to see the largest historic F3 field ever? Last year, Zandvoort was proud to say that it was the only event on the historic calendar that hosted all four official FIA championships. This will again be the case in 2019, as not only the FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship, the FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship and the FIA Lurani Trophy for Formula Junior cars will be back at Zandvoort – the track in the dunes will also be the battleground for the FIA Historic F3 European Cup. (https://historicgrandprix.nl/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/HGP-2018-Speedpictures-NED_HGP_CG-1031-F3.jpg) The European Cup’s debut in 2018 was an instant hit, as no fewer than 29 F3 cars from the heyday of the seventies and eighties flocked to the event. In two categories, drivers competed for the coveted title of best European historic F3 driver. Marcel Biehl (Ralt-Toyota RT1) won in category 1, Christian Olsen (Martini-Alfa Romeo MK39) prevailed in category 2. The 2019 edition will likely be even better, as the FIA has already received 22 entries – even though it’s only April. The FIA has maintained the exact same set of rules, the world federation confirmed. “Stability is a key factor for the success of this championship”, said series coordinator Louis Quiniou. Both reigning champions will return, Olsen in the car he won last year. However, Biehl – one of the big names in the historic F3 world – will be now Olsen’s rival in the category for younger cars as the German has decided to come to Zandvoort with a March 793. Both Italians will bring a March-Toyota 783. Their compatriot Angela Grasso is so far the only woman to have lodged an entry. Her Dallara-Toyota 382 is also the only Dallara on the entry list so far, besides the many Marches, Martinis and Ralts. A big contrast with the face of Formula 3 since the nineties… A welcome new face on the entry list is Manfredo Rossi, the Italian who has already won so much in historic Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula Junior. He will take the ex-Emanuele Pirro Martini-Toyota MK34 to Zandvoort. Rob Moores from Lithuania will also bring a famous F3 car – the Chevron-Toyota B38 with which Derek Daly claimed British F3 honours in 1977. The FIA has a maximum of 37 places available, so there are only 15 places left. Is it fair to say that Zandvoort promises to be the biggest historic F3 party of the year? Historic Grand Prix 2019 This year’s Historic Grand Prix at the Zandvoort circuit will take place on 6, 7 and 8 September. Free practice and qualifying are on Friday and Saturday, the races take place on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday evening 7 September will see a parade through the town centre of Zandvoort. A pre-sale day ticket for the dune area is just € 17.50 (30 euros for three days). A paddock ticket, which includes access to the main grandstand and the dune area, is 30 euros (day ticket) or 50 euros (three days). Children up to 14 have free access. Also, the exclusive Paddock Club will allow you to experience the Historic Grand Prix at VIP level.
